My low back pain, and muscle spasms won’t quit. What should I do?

Low back pain can be related to the large muscle that connects the hip to the lower rib and spine called the quadratus lumborum. When in spasm you may have constant deep aching pain even at rest.

Excessive sitting, heavy lifting, leg length differences, and twisting while lifting are a few possible contributors to QL spasm and pain.

Remember: Muscle spasm and contraction exist to protect and support an injured area. If it continues for too long it will cause reduced blood flow to muscle tissue and cause more damage. End the cycle of pain and contraction by learning to release muscle tension.

I use massage, acupuncture and teach patients how to break the cycle of pain and spasm through breath, mindfulness, and gentle movement.

For twenty years I have practiced acupuncture, massage, and herbal medicine in Marin. Contact me at 415-838-0459 to make an appointment in my Mill Valley or Stinson Beach office.
